Bands on My Radar at Shelton's Inaugural Riverfront Music Revival

This Saturday and Sunday June 9th and 10th will be the inaugural Riverfront Music Revival at Veterans Memorial Park in Shelton, CT. This event is put on by the same people that put on Soupstock at the same location. The headliners this weekend will be Ripe on Saturday night and Brother Joscephus and the Love Revival Revolution on Sunday.

In keeping with my 2017 pre-fest article writing tradition, I present to you BANDS ON MY RADAR. This is where I write a couple quick paragraphs about bands that I haven't seen yet and I most look forward to catching them at the festival. As is often the case with me, I will be highlighting the small fonts here. It is often the lesser known bands that are playing in the daylight hours that I am most interested in checking out.

The Big Takeover is not like any band that I have ever heard. I find NeeNee Rushie's voice influenced by reggae, jazz and soul to be simply amazing. The band has been together since 2007, and by the looks of their festival schedule this year, it seems like things are really taking off for them. NeeNee is originally from Jamaica, so you know her reggae is authentic. But the band hails from New Paltz, NY and judging by the earthiness of the people that I saw walking around when I was in that town, I know that their music is going to be the perfect vibe for a festival. They will be performing on the Main Stage at 1pm Sunday.

James Darling and the Nuclear Heartbreak

One of the newest bands on this bill is James Darling and the Nuclear Heartbreak. Their debut album isn't even a year old yet, but if you didn't know any better when listening to them on Spotify, you would be likely to assume that they are another one of those West Coast folk, blues, punk fusions that has been around and you just haven't heard them around here yet. But they aren't West Coast at all. This band comes from nearby Stamford, CT. And this is going to be a great opportunity to catch them on the Emerging Artist Stage at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon.
